Cendarii
More actions
Cendarii are a type of Divine Being who have traveled the near region of the galaxy for the past 3,000 years looking for a suitable planet to call home. They're compassionate and curious, often to their own detriment. Many Terrans enjoy their company, but many also consider them to be nosy do-gooders. They wage an eternal war against corruption, most notably against Undead and Fleshbeasts.
Description
edit edit sourceCendarii (or rather, their Shells) appear as small, slender humanoids, the vast majority of them standing no taller than 135cm. They're strikingly feminine, even the males, and have roundish faces with often cheery expressions. Their hair and eyes glow a gentle blue, and their skin is pale. They wear skin-tight suits, called Lifesuits, which can sport a variety of patterns using colors like white, gray, black, and gold. This suit is considered part of their biology, as it cannot be safely removed.
Their Core (that is, their true form which lives inside of their shell), is impossible to describe. However, a pair of their natural tentacles can reach out of their shell from their back. These tentacles are opalescent and glow brightly, and can be quite long (some measuring up to 3-4 meters in length).
All Cendarii look more or less the same, with only small variations between them. Male Cendarii have the same basic frame as their female counterparts, but lack feminine secondary characteristics. The only exception are the combat models, such as Paladins, which stand roughly 20cm taller than the rest.
Clothing
edit edit sourceCendarii prefer to wear loose clothes, most often cloaks. They particularly prefer to wear clothes that allow them to extend their tentacles without much trouble, whether by reaching out from under a cloak or by slipping through "sleeves" in the back of their garment. They aren't particularly picky about how much is covered by their clothing, except for the capacitor on their back. Exposing this in public is considered indecent.
They like whites, blues, and golds in their clothes, though some have opted for darker colors as well. Particularly after being exposed to Terran culture, many have enjoyed experimenting with different styles.
Diet
edit edit sourceThough Cendarii don't strictly need to eat, they enjoy doing so. They enjoy strong flavors, especially sweet and sour, but will generally eat anything so long as it isn't meat or some other animal part. They cultivate a small variety of berries and fruits that they managed to coax into growing on their homeworld, and on Terra are quite fond of candies and pastries. They're also capable of ingesting raw mana, and even enjoy the taste of liquid mana.
Eating allows them to convert their food into mana to fuel their shell with. Cendarii adventurers are known to carry packets of syrup for quick recharges. As a general rule, more calories means more mana.
Personality
edit edit sourceCendarii are known for being kind and curious - often to a fault. Upon spotting someone in trouble or something new, they habitually drop other tasks in order to investigate. Despite this behavior causing them problems in the past, they seem to show no intention of changing this. They particularly obsess over documenting new information; a Cendarii can spend hours on end happily flipping through the pages of unread books, or carefully studying unknown species.
Their kindness extends to all living things. They dislike causing harm unless necessary, and even refuse to cut down trees for building material. They love and respect life of all sizes, as seen when Marael urges Xelophis to be careful in removing ants from her person. They outright refuse to eat meat or wear clothes made of leather, expressing disgust at both concepts (although they acknowledge that Terrans do these things by necessity and make no attempt to change their ways).
Abilities
edit edit sourceCendarii are small and agile, and their shells' strength doesn't match the physical strength of most Terrans. They rely on Magic for most things, and specially engineered biotech for other things. Being divine beings, they have access to the same divine domains as their host deity, Cendaran, which are Space and Healing.
They can, with casual ease, alter their personal gravity to allow themselves to drift about a few centimeters off the ground, and even to "fall" in a chosen direction for as fast as air resistance will allow (it should be noted that they cannot use this ability to 'fly,' as it can only be used near a surface). Inversely, they can also change their gravity to make themselves heavier - up to 250kg or so. The same magics allow them to navigate along walls and ceilings as easily as they can floors.
