Doll
More actions
Dolls are artificially born, soulless creatures who resemble other, naturally born races. They most commonly resemble humans, but can appear as other races, as well. They're known for their empty gaze and their tendency to go berserk. The creation of new Dolls is strictly outlawed in most cities, and Dolls are usually "dismantled" on sight if discovered.
Description
edit edit sourceSince Dolls strongly resemble other races due to the nature of their creation, it should suffice to say that they simply appear as an average member of their origin race. Sometimes they may sport a barcode or other marking somewhere on their body, but otherwise they appear perfectly normal. Except for one thing: their eyes.
Their eyes are "empty," betraying their lack of soul. Making eye contact with a Doll usually results in a sense of vertigo in the viewer. Those with especially weak constitutions may feel nausea or even black out with extended eye contact. The exact mechanism for this is unknown.
Personality
edit edit sourceDue to their lack of soul, Dolls' personalities are very muted. Some might even argue non-existent. Part of why they're named "Dolls" comes from their habit of sitting idly and staring into space when they have nothing better to do. They have no drive to better themselves, to find hobbies, to socialize, or even to preserve themselves. They will even sit in stormy weather if nothing catches their attention.
When addressed, Dolls usually speak in monotone, or at the very least with very little inflection, and reply in as short a manner as is reasonable. It's not that they dislike conversation, it's that it simply doesn't interest them. When coaxed into a conversation, they often have difficulty coming up with things to say. Many freeze when asked for their opinion on something, because they simply don't know what their opinion is.
Berserking
edit edit sourceDolls are notorious for going "Berserk." They eventually notice how different they are from others, and learn what sets them apart. Unless they have some manner of emotional anchor to keep them grounded, they inevitably go berserk. They will attempt to kill basically anyone they can in an attempt to steal the person's soul and become human. This, of course, never works. But it doesn't stop them from trying again and again. A mix of desperation to be like others and a lack of remorse drives them at this stage.
