Mana poisoning

From Cendaran Codex

Mana poisoning is a condition caused by large amounts of Mana entering an animal. Plants are largely unaffected the same way animals are. There are two stages of mana poisoning: the first are the symptoms experienced while exposed to mana directly, the second are symptoms experienced after the initial attack. Short of a miracle, there are no cures for mana poisoning.

While exposed to dense mana fog, a victim will begin to cough, wheeze, and have difficulty catching their breath. They'll begin to sweat, will have a hard time keeping their balance, and will experience sharp pains in their lungs and muscles. They may have muscle spasms or seizures during this time. Eventually, they'll begin to feel drowsy and may pass out. If they remain in the mana fog for an extended period of time, they'll begin to crystalize. Crystallization happens faster in denser mana fog. Eventually, the whole body is replaced with mana crystal.

If the victim manages to escape from the mana fog before crystallization occurs, they'll survive with long-lasting health complications. These include asthma, spasms and seizures, hallucinating the 'chime' of mana, dizzy spells, and overall poor motor control. Their mental health may also suffer, depending on the length of time spent in the mana fog. These symptoms may come and go, and often flare up if the victim is exposed even to small amounts of elevated mana that most would be able to shrug off. This includes being indoors during a mana storm or being around someone casting magic.
